La présente partie de l'ISO 5794 spécifie des méthodes d'essai permettant de caractériser les silices hydratées précipitées destinées à être utilisées comme ingrédient de mélange du caoutchouc. Une définition des silices hydratées précipitées est donnée. L'ISO 5794-2 spécifie le déroulement de l'essai, l'équipement de mélange, le mode opératoire de mélange et les méthodes d'essai relatives aux silices hydratées précipitées dans un mélange caoutchouc.
