This Technical Advisory (TA) provides the preliminary view of Telcordia on generic requirements for digital equalizers that are built as features of Digital CrossConnect System or other Digital Terminal Systems using a DS1 interface. Telephone channels are characterized by their response to sinusoidal signals. This is referred to as the channel frequency response. The channel frequency response for ll frequencies of interest is represented by two curves: a group delay response and an amplitude response. Equalization refers to the process of improving the channel frequency response characteristic of a communications system. The purpose of equalizing filters is to greatly reduce the type of distortion called intersymbol interferency by compensating for the channel characteristics that cause it.
