This document specifies the general requirements, test methods, manufacturer's information, marking and packaging, regardless of the design of the spray handpieces (see Figure 1). This document applies to spray handpieces and related powders used in the dental field. These parts and powders are used on patients to remove dental debris, discolouration and plaque. They are also used for cleaning and polishing teeth in applications where abrasion techniques are contraindicated. This document also covers spray handpieces and associated powders used in oral medicine for air abrasion procedures (eg for minimally invasive cavity preparation), surface preparation for adhesive application, and removal of cement residues when abrasion is part of the expected result. It does not apply to dental units used to power spray handpieces. Likewise, it does not apply to dental prophylaxis handpieces (contra-angles), to electric instruments for the removal of dental plaque (scalers) or to multifunctional handpieces (syringes). not apply to dental units used to power spray handpieces.
