Abstract - (Show below) - (Hide below)

Preface The difficulty of purchasing light lamps based on energy efficiency was eased with the publishing of CSA C870-12 -- Performance of General Service Lamps . This new standard enables certifiers to measure different lamp types in a comparable way so that consumers can be informed of the energy efficiency and other critical performance aspects of a general service lamp (GSL) product. It supports public policy aimed to phase out inefficient sources of light. This is the first CSA Group lighting standard that addresses performance requirements and the corresponding methodologies in a technology neutral manner (independent of the lamp technology). Besides a strong focus on energy-efficiency requirements (luminous efficacy), the standard also defines other performance requirements, i.e. power factor, color rendering, cold temperature starting time and transient protection.

Scope - (Show below) - (Hide below)

Preface This is the first edition of CSA C870, Performance of general service lamps. This Standard establishes minimum performance requirements for general service lamps. The requirements of this Standard are in addition to those specified in CSA C22.2. No. 84-05, Incandescent lamps, and CSA C22.2 No. 1993-09, Self-ballasted lamps and lamp adapters. Scope 1.1 This Standard specifies test procedures and performance requirements for screw-based general service lamps that are designed for an operating capability that partially falls within 100 and 130 V. 1.2 This Standard does not include requirements for luminaires used with general service lamps. 1.3 In CSA standards, \"shall\" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; \"should\" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and \"may\" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (nonmandatory) to define their application.
