Dieser Teil von ISO 128 legt die allgemeinen Grundsätze für die Darstellung von Flächen in Schnitten und Schnittansichten in technischen Zeichnungen (mechanische Technik, Elektrotechnik, Architektur, Tiefbau u.a.) in Orthogonalprojektionen nach ISO 5456-2 fest. Die Anforderungen an die Reproduktion, einschliesslich Mikroverfilmung nach ISO 6428, wurden auch in diesem Teil von ISO 128 berücksichtigt. Die Grundregeln für Schnitte und Schnittansichten sind in ISO 128-40 festgelegt.
