Abstract - (Show below) - (Hide below)

Specifies requirements for precast concrete pipes for use as water supply, stormwater, wastewater and sewerage pipes. Special requirements are given for pressure and non-pressure applications and for pipes used with sewerage or in marine environments. The Standard includes requirements for frequency of testing and the determination of compliance, and a guide which indicates the critical levels of a selection of chemical components of the buried environment. It is intended that the Standard be used in conjunction with AS 3725.

Scope - (Show below) - (Hide below)

This Standard describes minimum requirements for the materials to be used in, and the manufacture of, controlled quality precast concrete pipes. It also describes methods of sampling, testing and classifying concrete pipes manufactured in accordance with this Standard. This Standard applies to circular precast pipes manufactured from concrete, unreinforced or with circumferential steel reinforcement, that are intended for the conveyance of non-pressurized or pressurized supply water, stormwater, wastewater, or sewage. It is not intended to apply to cast-in-situ pipes, box culverts, or structural members covered by other Australian Standards. This Standard also does not apply to precast-prestressed concrete pipe, embedded steel cylinder pipe, fibre-reinforced concrete pipe or to precast concrete cylindrical access chamber components.Special requirements for fittings fabricated from pipes complying with this Standard are not specified in this Standard.NOTES:This Standard does not cover the assessment of external service loads to which a pipe will be subjected in a particular installation. Purchasers should therefore satisfy themselves that the class of pipe specified or selected on the basis of this Standard is suitable for its intended application. For buried pipes, reference to AS 3725 is required for this purpose. Guidance on the information to be supplied between purchaser and supplier at the time of enquiry or order is given in Appendix B.
