The aim of the implementation of the pan-European in-vehicle emergency call system (eCall) is to automate the notification of the occurrence of a road accident event across Europe with the same technical standards and the same quality of service objectives by using a "Public Land Mobile Network" (PLMN) that supports the European pre-assigned emergency destination address (see Normative References) and to provide a tool for manual triggering of the notification of the occurrence of an emergency.
