This document is applicable to rail vehicles equipped with buffers and screw coupling systems. In order to enable the operation and coupling of multiple units or vehicles, this document specifies the defined space to be kept free for the shunter, referred to as the "Bern area", as well as the space required to be kept free for the attachment of the tow coupling.
