This document specifies requirements for single-use sterile extracorporeal blood gas exchangers (oxygenators) designed to deliver oxygen to and remove carbon dioxide from human blood during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) for up to 6 hours, extracorporeal pulmonary support (ECLA with vein veins (VV), vein arterial (VA) or venous arterial venous (VA) cannulation strategies), cardiopulmonary support (CPS), extracorporeal life support (ECLS with VA cannulation strategy), extracorporeal carbon dioxide removal (ECCO2R) and other extracorporeal circulatory techniques that require blood-gas exchange.
