Sets forth standard non-destructive procedures and requirements for the detection and classification of localized overheating on ground surfaces, by chemical etch methods. Applies only to ferrous materials with a hardness of Rockwell C-40 or greater (180000 psi tensile strength or greater). It is applicable to parts such as gears, splines, bearings etc., but not to nitrided parts.
