Defines the character structure and sense of character parity for serial synchronous and asynchronous data communication in the American National Standard Code for Information Interchange, X3.4-1968 (ASCII), and the codes invoked when applying the American National Standard Code Extension Techniques for Use with the 7-Bit Coded Character Set of ASCII X3.41-1974. Applies to general data interchange at the interface between data processing terminal equipment and data communication equipment.
