ANSI/ISA-62453-2 (IEC 62453-2:2016 Mod), Field Device Tool (FDT) Interface Specification – Part 2: Concepts and detailed description, outlines a technical framework for integrating and managing field devices in industrial automation through software components called device type managers (DTMs). This standard describes how these DTMs interact with frame applications and communication channels to handle device configuration,communication and data exchange across different fieldbus protocols. It covers detailed object models, including modular device structures like composite and module DTMs, as well as block-type managers for internal device functions. It explains how to manage system topology, address devices, handle multi-user access and support redundancy scenarios. Version interoperability is addressed to allow components built on different FDT versions to work together smoothly. This document also specifies a wide range of services for tasks such as scanning networks, connecting to devices, reading and writing parameters and managing user interfaces.
