Such PFDs were previously known as 'lifejackets' and are intended to maintain the wearer in a safe floating position. Adults' and children's PFDs are covered in body mass ranges from 10 kg up. In-water performance tests are included in appendices. Common requirements for PFDs are specified in AS 2259.
