Gives the forms and dimensions of seven series of capital letters and numerals and one of lower-case letters for use on signs specified in AS 1742 and AS 1743. It includes tables of dimensions for a range of heights, and tables of spacings.

This specification gives the forms and dimensions of a range of letters and numerals to be used on standard road signs specified in AS 1743, Road Signs, and AS 1742, Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices. The specification also gives the spacings to be used in setting out the letters and numerals.The specification comprises:(a) Six alphabets of capital letters and sets of numerals ranging in width from narrow letters (Series A) to board letters (Series F), together with tables giving the height and width of these letters and numerals in seventeen standard sizes ranging from 40 mm to 640 mm in height.(b) One alphabet of Modified Series E capital letters and set of numerals, and one alphabet of lower-case letters, together with tables giving the height and width of these letters and numerals in thirteen standard sizes ranging from 120 mm to 640 mm in height for the capital letters and numerals, and 90 mm to 480 mm in height for the lower-case letters. These alphabets are for use conjointly. NOTE: The modified Series E capital alphabet is the Series E capital alphabet with the stroke width widened to one-fifth of the letter height.(c) Spacing tables for the Series A to F letters and numerals.(d) Spacing tables for Modified Series E and Lower Case letters.
