Describes a coded character set intended to facilitate the interchange of information between data processing systems or within message transmission systems. The set is applicable to all latin alphabets and provides 7-bit coded representation for 128 control or graphic characters. Facilities for extension exist where 128 characters are insufficient for a particular purpose. The set is completely compatible with that of ISO 646.
