Applies to electrical equipment which can be shown by test or otherwise to be suitable for use where flammable gases present an explosion hazard. In general, this type of protection is applicable to electrical equipment supplied from a voltage not exceeding 1100V (nominal), but equipment supplied from higher voltages is not excluded. Tests which are considered essential are prescribed, but additional tests may be required in some cases by the certifying authority.
