    Outlines the general principles of guarding requirements, with specific requirements for the guarding of different types of machine. Fixed, interlocked, automatic and electronic guards are included. Illustrations of suitable guards and guarding details are included.

    This code applies to the guarding and safe use of guillotine machines used in the metal, printing and packaging industries, and may also be applied to other industries where similar machines are involved. The code describes in detail what should be done to secure compliance with the relevant provisions of AS 1470.* The code is not intended to apply to guillotines which form an integral part of other industrial machines, nor to clippers, nibblers, shears, sheeters, slitters or hand-powered guillotines, or to other types of guillotine machines used for cutting and trimming asbestos cements, leather or wood veneers.NOTE: This is not intended to imply that the provisions of the code cannot be applied either in part or wholly to these machines, but rather that the provisions would be difficult to apply to at least some operations on some machines.
