Childrens swimming instruction aids, and flotation toys and rings

Superseded date

30-06-2017

Published date

01-01-1976

This specification sets out basic requirements for the design and construction of swimming instruction aids and flotation toys and rings, intended as a means of providing additional boyancy for a child, either as an aid to swimming instruction or during recreational activities in the water. With the exception of flotation rings, these are items that are intended to be attached to the arms or trunk of a child, but not to the legs or feet. The articles specified include those which may be regarded as toys. Articles specified herein are intended for use in calm shallow waters such as swimming pools and enclosures, and sheltered harbour beaches, which are generally calm, but may be choppy or have small waves. Buoyancy vests and life jackets are not within the scope of this specification, and are covered by AS 1499 and AS 1512, respectively.
