Applies to cells and batteries based on any electrochemical system intended principally for portable lighting and power, electronic equipment, photographic equipment and watches. It does not apply to rechargeable, reserve type or water-activated batteries. It includes a designation system based on IEC 86 as well as identifying the electrochemical system used. Sizes and dimensions and requirements for terminals, design, construction, performance and testing are included. Individual data sheets are provided for 14 types. An appendix sets out notes for traders and users of batteries.
