This Standard specifies requirements for glass alcoholometers, not incorporating a thermometer, suitable for determining the alcohol content of simple mixtures of alcohol and water for fiscal purposes.Alcoholometers in two classes of accuracy are specified, as follows:(a) General purpose, calibrated at intervals of 0.2 percent (V/V) in the range of 0-100 percent alcohol.(b) Special purpose, calibrated at intervals of 0.1 percent (V/V) in the range of 95-103 percent alcohol.NOTES:1 The procedure for using an alcoholometer is given in Appendix A and some considerations for the design of alcoholometers are referred to in Appendix B.2 Alcoholometers specified in this Standard are graduated at the reference temperature of 20¦C to indicate the concentration of alcohol by volume in simple mixtures of ethanol and water at that temperature. Alcoholometer readings at other than this temperature may be corrected to this temperature by referring to the tables in Appendix C..
