Sets out specific recommendations for the lighting of football grounds for all codes commonly played in Australia, viz. Australian Rules, Rugby Union, Rugby League and Soccer. Recommendations are provided for training and competition levels of play which take into account spectator viewing requirements associated with these levels of play. Does not cover requirements for television broadcasting.

This standard sets out specific recommendations for the lighting of outdoor football grounds for all codes commonly played in Australia, namely-(a) Rugby League;(b) Rugby Union;(c) Australian Rules; and(d) Soccer.As the field layout and the method of play are very similar for rugby league and rugby union, identical lighting requirements apply. Such requirements are grouped under the general description 'rugby'. The standard provides recommendations for training and competition levels of play and takes into account spectator viewing requirements associated with these levels of play. Where lighting appropriate to training or lower levels of competition are to be installed, consideration should be given to the likelihood of the installation being upgraded so that provision can be made at the time of installation to minimize the cost of the future upgrading.In addition to the recommendations of this standard, the general provisions of AS 2560, Part 1, should be followed, as applicable.Where the football lighting installation is also to be used for other sports, the relevant recommendations in Part 2 of the AS 2560, series* should be observed in addition to the recommendations of this standard.The standard does not provide recommendations for the amenity and emergency lighting which may be required in public areas associated with stadiums.NOTE: The provisions of AS 1680 and AS 2293, Parts 1 and 2, may be applicable to some of these areas.The standard does not include the special lighting requirements which will apply for television broadcasting (see Preface).
