Abstract - (Show below) - (Hide below)

Specifies requirements for the design, construction and testing of electric motor-driven coal-mining machinery and accessories intended for use in explosive atmospheres of underground coal mines. It covers both battery-operated and mains-powered machines and includes requirements for lighting systems, gas monitoring, electrical protection, enclosures, interlocking, wiring, motors and transformers. Requirements covering the longwall method of mining are included.

Scope - (Show below) - (Hide below)

This Standard specifies requirements for the design, construction and testing of electric motor-driven coal mining machines (including longwall machines), hereinafter referred to as electrical machines, and accessories intended for use in hazardous areas in and around underground coal mines.NOTE: Mining machines and accessories may require approval by the relevant regulatory authority. Enquiries concerning approval may be made to the following: Department of Mineral Resources, N.S.W.Department of Resource Industries, QldDepartment of Mines, Tas.Department of Mines, W.A.Department of Mines and Energy, S.A.Department of Industry, Technology and Resources, Vic.
