Abstract - (Show below) - (Hide below)

Specifies the safety requirements for portable, hand-held internal combustion-engine driven chainsaws intended for use in arboriculture by an operator working up in trees. Guidance on the safe use of such chainsaws is given in an appendix.

Scope - (Show below) - (Hide below)

This Standard specifies the safety requirements for portable, hand-held, internal combustion engine-driven chainsaws intended for use in arboriculture by a trained operator working up in trees, and with a maximum mass of 4.3 kg without guide bar and saw chain and with empty tanks. This Standard does not apply to(a) pole-mounted powered pruners; or(b) hydraulic chainsaws; or (c) electric chainsaws. NOTE: Guidance on the safe use of tree service chainsaws is given in Appendix A.
