Specifies general safety requirements for household and similar electrical appliances. It is a base specification which, when combined with a particular specification in the AS 3300/NZS 6300 series, becomes a complete specification for the particular appliance. It closely follows IEC 335-1:1976, 2nd edition including Amendments No 1 to 6. It is identical with NZS 6300:1992 and produced as a Joint Australian/New Zealand Standard.
