Specifies railway safety requirements to be included in a railway safety management system by any organization seeking to demonstrate the ability to control the processes that determine the acceptability of railway safety activities. The Standard applies to railways having a nominal gauge of 600 mm or greater and includes specific interface requirements for the operation of the interstate system.

This Standard specifies railway safety requirements to be included in a railway safety management system by any organization seeking to demonstrate the ability to control the processes that determine the acceptability of railway safety activities. It is applicable where achievement of the safety requirements is to be by either adherence to established designs, specifications or operating and maintenance procedures in particular subject areas, or by demonstration of adequate capabilities in those areas by other means. The Standard includes specific interface requirements for the operation of the designated interstate system.The Standard applies to railways as defined in Clause 1.5.9.General occupational health and safety issues are not covered by this Standard, except where they are incidental to other specified requirements.
