Describes and illustrates types and design features of commonly used gauges and specifies their main parameters and minimum quality requirements. Only the features absolutely necessary to ensure interchangeability of parts, rigidity and stability of construction and ease and reliability of gauges in use are specified, leaving further details of design to individual designers. This Standard does not specify shape and limits for gauging surfaces. In addition to general requirements and terms and definitions, six types of internal gauge and five types of external gauge are covered in 112 figures and 54 tables.

This standard describes types and design features of commonly used limit gauges and specifies their main parameters and minimum quality requirements.Only the features absolutely necessary to ensure interchangeability of parts, rigidity and stability of construction and ease and reliability of gauges in use are specified, further design details being left to individual designers. The finished design of gauging members, including limits and tolerances, is outside the scope of this standard, and reference should be made to the following Australian standards:AS B195 Plain Limit Gauges, Limits and TolerancesAS B121 Screw Gauge Limits and TolerancesPart 1 Gauges for Screw Threads of Unified FormPart 2 Gauges for Screw Threads other than those of Unified FormPart 3 Gauges for ISO Metric Screw Threads*Part 4 Limits of Sizes for Gauges for Screw Threads of Unified Form; Diameters 1/4 inch and larger.
