This code sets out recommended practices for the taking of samples from coal seams in situ, either underground or in open cuts. It deals with three kinds of sample - (i) pillar samples; (ii) ply samples; & (iii) strip (or channel) samples. The code does not apply to the taking of bulk (or run-of-mine) samples of coal as mined from the seam, or to the sampling of brown coal deposits.
