Specifies essential safety requirements for approval and test purposes. In Australia it is to be read in conjunction with AS 3100. In New Zealand it is to be read in conjunction with NZS 6200 for the purpose of Clause 19.

This Standard applies to electric lawnmowers intended for operation at low voltage. It applies to self-propelling lawnmowers and edge-trimming appliances.This Standard does not apply to cord-line trimmers which are covered by AS 3160.For the purpose of this Standard the term 'lawnmower' includes an edge trimming appliance.
