    Specifies particular safety requirements for projectors and similar appliances for approval and test purposes. It is to be read in conjunction with AS/NZS 3350.1:1994. This Standard is technically equivalent to and has been reproduced from IEC 60335-2-56:1997.

    This clause of part 1 is replaced by:This standard deals with the safety of electric projectors and similar appliances for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V. NOTE 1 û Examples of appliances that are within the scope of this standard are:û slide projectors (diascopes);û film-strip projectors;û overhead projectors;û opaque projectors (episcopes);û opaque-transparency projectors (epidiascopes);û microscope projectors;û effects projectors;û still viewers;û film viewers;û motion picture projectors;û photoreproduction appliances;û photographic enlargers;û slide-sorting appliances.Projectors may incorporate sound amplifiers.Appliances not intended for normal household use, but which nevertheless may be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances intended for use by laymen in schools, offices, shops and similar locations are within the scope of this standard. So far as practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by appliances which are encountered by all persons in and around the home. This standard does not, in general, take into account û the use of appliances by young children or infirm persons without supervision;û playing with the appliance by young children.NOTES Attention is drawn to the fact that:û for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements may be necessary;û for appliances intended to be used in tropical countries. special requirements may be necessary;
