Provides an introduction to the nature and purpose of formal description techniques (FDTs) with formal descriptions in each of the techniques for selected examples described in natural language. Guidance is given to users of FDTs on how to judge and improve the quality of formal descriptions with management guidance on how to handle the relationship between informal and formal descriptions and between formal descriptions. This Standard is identical with and has been reproduced from ISO/IEC/TR 10167:1991.
