This Standard sets out procedures for evaluating structural properties of graded timber and for verifying the accuracy of specific grading techniques. This Standard also specifies requirements for resolving doubts concerning the specified design properties of particular populations of graded timber. It is suitable for application to both permissible stress and limit states design codes. Method for random selection of specimen location is provided in Appendix A.Methods for using data obtained from non-standard evaluation procedures are described in Appendix B.NOTES:1 This Standard may also be applied to structural timber products other than solid timber. However in such cases, the long duration strength factor of 1.75 used in Equation 9.2(1) should be amended to reflect the appropriate duration factor for that structural product.2 A worked example for determining basic working stress in bending is provided in Appendix C.
