The objective of this Standard is to provide a uniform Australian/New Zealand regulatory compliance mark for electrical and electronic equipment. It is intended that such marking will aid regulators in regulatory enforcement and may aid purchasing decisions by consumers.

This standard specifies the requirements for the Regulatory Compliance Mark (RCM) and its placement on electrical and electronic equipment to indicate compliance with particular regulations applicable to aspects of the equipment as detailed in this standard.
It is to be read in conjunction with AS/NZS 4417.1 and with the ERAC EESS, Regulations and Scheme Rules, Australian State and Territory Electrical Safety Regulations, New Zealand Electrical Safety Regulations and the ACMA and RSM Regulations.
The requirements for application of the mark for the ACMA labelling purposes are contained in the relevant ACMA Labelling Notices. For the information of suppliers and other interested parties, this standard also contains an overview of the ACMA arrangements.
NOTE 1 Regulations, other than those mentioned in this standard may be also applicable to electrical and electronic equipment.
NOTE 2 Interactions between the application of the RCM for electrical safety and with the Australia Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) Regulations and the New Zealand Radio Spectrum Management (RSM) Regulations are shown in Annex A for mandatory/voluntary use.
