This International Standard deals with the safety of electric food waste disposers for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 volt. Appliances not intended for normal household use but that nevertheless may be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances intended to be used by laymen in shops, in light industry and on farms, are within the scope of this standard.
This Standard will supersede AS/NZS 60335.2.16:2006 two years from the date of publication (i.e. on 26 October 2015). During this period it is anticipated that regulatory authorities will approve food waste disposers to either standard.
