The purpose of this International Standard is to define and promote the use of a standard code for the unique identification of recordings.The International Standard Recording Code (ISRC) may be applied to audio recordings and music video recordings regardless of whether they are in analogue or digital formats. The ISRC shall not be used for the numbering of audio or audiovisual carriers (e.g. compact discs or videocassettes).Audiovisual recordings, other than music video recordings produced in conjunction with an audio recording, are excluded from the scope of this International Standard. Such audiovisual recordings should be assigned an International Standard Audiovisual Number (ISAN) in accordance with ISO 15706.
