CONTAINED IN VOL. 06.02, 2017 Specifies the length of time a thermosetting coating powder takes to gel on a polished metal surface at a specified temperature, such as 204 degrees C (400 degrees F).

1.1This test method determines the length of time a thermosetting coating powder takes to gel on a polished metal surface at a specified temperature, such as 204°C (400°F). The determination of the gel time is a very simple method for the characterization and quality control of coating powders. However, the gel time determined by this method is not directly related to the time for the coating powder to cure in practical applications.

1.2This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

1.3This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
