1.1These test methods cover the determination of the specific gravity, apparent, of liquid industrial chemicals. Two test methods are covered as follows:
1.1.1Test Method A, specific gravity, apparent, by means of a hydrometer.
1.1.2Test Method B, specific gravity, apparent, by means of a pycnometer.
Note 1:Test Method D4052 describes an instrumental procedure.
1.2In common usage the term specific gravity, apparent, is understood to mean specific gravity or relative density.
1.3The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in these test methods with the exception of Fahrenheit (°F) in 5.1 as an example of a possible industrial specification unit.
1.4This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. Consult current OSHA regulations, suppliers’ Safety Data Sheets, and local regulations for all materials used in this specification.
1.5This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
