1.1This specification provides requirements for material, dimensions and tolerances, finish and marking, and care and handling for reamers intended to cut a cylindrical path along the medullary canal of diaphyseal bone.

1.2Intramedullary reamers are commonly used to prepare the medullary canal for the insertion of intramedullary fixation devices (IMFD). As such, the relationship between the intramedullary reamer diameter and the IMFD's diameter are considered.

1.3The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.

1.4This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
