This Technical Specification specifies an Electronic Transfer of Prescriptions (ETP) solution for the generation and transfer of electronic prescriptions and associated dispensing records between participating Prescribers and Dispensers. The focus of this document is the specification of a platform independent (logical) services model for ETP services. These services are specified in terms of the required behaviour of the participating systems and the information that is communicated between them. This document is to be read in conjunction with the platform independent logical information model, which is also provided as part of the suite of ETP documents. The logical information model is specified in ATS 4888.1, Electronic transfer of prescriptions, Part 1: Platform independent (logical) information model to support electronic transfer of prescriptions and contains the clinical information that is communicated between participants using ETP services. The combination of this document and the logical information model represents a complete ‘platform independent’ logical service specification for ETP (see Figure 1).The ETP package also includes ATS 4888.6, Platform implementation specific web service, which provides a ‘platform dependent’ (see Figure 1) specification that binds the logical service specifications in this document to a particular implementation 'platform' by specifying particular web services interfaces.
