Das Schallabsorptionsvermögen der Raumbegrenzungsflächen bestimmt in Arbeitsräumen mit über die Höhe des Schallpegels an den einzelnen Arbeitsplätzen. Der Einfluss ist auf Arbeitszonen, die in einiger Entfernung von dominierenden Geräuschquellen liegen, besonders gross, er ist jedoch auch für den geräuscherzeugenden Arbeitsplatz selbst vorhanden.
