This British Standard specifies requirements for children\'s cots suitable for general purpose use in hospitals and similar institutions.

This standard does not apply to cribs, travelling cots, cots that are convertible into beds, and domestic cots.

This standard does not specify requirements for buffering but buffering devices may be fitted as an option (see Appendix B).

This standard does not apply to cot mattresses.

NOTE1 Polyurethane foam cot mattresses are specified in BS5223-2 and methods of test for ignitability are specified in BS5852-2 and BS6807.

NOTE2 Attention is drawn to BS1753 which specifies the requirements for domestic cots.
