Specifies materials, construction and performance requirements for use by adults (type 1) and small children (type 2). Type 3 pans are intended for use with supine patients. Grade A pans are designed to withstand sterilization at 134°C; Grade B disinfection at 100°C.

This Part of this British Standard specifies materials, construction and performance requirements for reusable bed pans intended for use by adults (type1) and small children (type2). A third type, type3 pans, are intended for use with supine patients. GradeA pans are designed to withstand heat sterilization at 134°C; gradeB pans are capable of withstanding heat disinfection at 100°C.

The pans specified in this standard are suitable for use on most types of mattress and bed, and are intended to fit into bed pan washer-disinfectors complying with BS27452).

NOTE1 Appendix A gives details of the information to be supplied by the purchaser to the manufacturer.
