The composition of three types of pitch, or bitumen coating, two hot applied fluid, and one fluid and sand mixture, are given for damp resistant coating for the ground under floors (solums), together with tests and an appendix dealing with methods of use.

Part 1 of this British Standard specifies the quality requirements for pitch of a type suitable for spreading over the solum in order to provide adequate damp proofing and prevent the evaporation of moisture.
