This standard specifies carbon steel wire rod, wire and springs (high duty unground wire, hardened and tempered) for aerospace purposes.
Wire conforming to this specification is suitable for springs that are subject to exacting service conditions. It is not suitable for high duty dynamically stressed springs, for which wire conforming to BS 2S 204 ought be used, when hardened and tempered springs are required.
