This British Standard specifies requirements for the construction, size and quality of fibre cores ranging from 4 mm diameter to 24 mm diameter for wire ropes and covers the following materials:

  1. hard fibres: manila and sisal;
  2. man-made fibres: fibre-forming polyolefins.

Hard fibre and man-made fibre cores specified in this standard may be employed as main cores in ropes complying with BS 302-1 to BS 302-6 and other similar standards.
