The standard applies equally to monophonic, stereophonic and multichannel equipment and systems.
The complete standard consists of the following parts in which the requirements for the individual units of a system are given:
- Part 1: General;
- Part 2: Radio tuner units;
- Part 3: Record playing equipment and cartridges;
- Part 4: Magnetic recording and play-back equipment;
- Part 5: Microphones;
- Part 6: Amplifiers;
- Part 7: Loudspeakers;
- Part 8: Combination equipment1);
- Part 9: Magnetic tapes for audio recording;
- Part 10: Headphones.
The object of this standard is to prescribe the required minimum values of the characteristics of audio equipment and systems for high quality reproduction which are designed for household use.
