This British Standard describes a method for the evaluation of a complete upholstered seating unit, and in particular aims to evaluate the likelihood of faults arising in service due to the method of application of materials or to the interaction of various materials or components. It does not evaluate the suitability of individual components such as the cover fabric, foam or padding, suspension system or frame construction.
This standard is not applicable to padded furniture where in use the seat or back fully compresses to the chair structure.
