This British Standard gives recommendations on operations prior to entry into a silo, bunker, bin or hopper; safety and access equipment for use therein; means of access; and safety precautions when working in, and affecting rescue from, a silo, bunker, bin or hopper.
NOTE 1. Statutory provisions covering safe means of access to elevated and confined working spaces are contained in the Mines and Quarries Act 1954 [1], the Factories Act 1961 [2] and regulations made under these. The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 [3] and regulations made under this have general requirements for safe systems of work including means of access and egress.
