Abstract - (Show below) - (Hide below)

Defines the requirements, and provides an adapted hazard specific guidance and categorization scheme for the safe use of visible optical sources that are within the scope of IEC 60825-1, but used exclusively for transmission of information to the human eye. These application-related sources can be categorized into: - Type 1: safe for intended viewers and personnel in manufacturing and service activities; - Type 2: safe for intended viewers only (i.e. protective measures are required for users engaged in manufacturing, service and maintenance activities). Applications of sources that cannot be categorized into either type must be treated in accordance with IEC 60825-1.
