This British Standard specifies the chemical composition, mechanical properties and inspection and test requirements for a nickel-chromium-molybdenum-vanadium steel (iron base, Ni 1.75, Cr 1.25, Mo 1, V 0.2) supplied in the following forms and as parts for general aerospace use.
- Forging stock, designation S 163A, columns 2, 3 and 4 of Table 1.
- Forgings, designation S 163C, columns 5, 6 and 7 of Table 1.
- Black bars for machining, designation S 163B, columns 8, 9 and 10 of Table 1.
- Bright bars for machining, designation S 163D, columns 11, 12 and 13 of Table 1.
