Die Hakenleiter dient als Steig- und Rettungsgerät insbesondere dort, wo andere Leitern aufgrund der Einsatzhöhe, der baulichen Gegebenheiten oder des Fehlens einer geeigneten Aufstellfläche nicht in Stellung gebracht werden können. Die Hakenleiter wird am Haken an einer geeigneten Brüstung eingehängt und frei hängend bestiegen. Sie darf nicht als Anstellleiter benutzt werden.
